Memorial Bike Ride Honors Deceased Annapolis High Coach

Patricia Cunningham died Aug. 21 in a bike collision with a vehicle on Riva Road.

An Annapolis High School coach will be honored with a memorial bike ride Saturday near where she was killed on Riva Road.

Patricia Cunningham died when a car collided with her bicycle on Riva Road on Aug. 21. She was an assistant track and cross-country coach at Annapolis High School since 2011.

The memorial bike ride will take place on the road between Annapolis High School and Central Avenue, Beards Point Road and Governor Bridge Road.

"The objective is to honor the memory of Trish Cunningham and to promote bicycle safety awareness objectives such as sharing the road and the Maryland "3 Foot" law," according to the Facebook page for the event

Cyclists will meet at Annapolis High School Saturday morning at 7 a.m. and then ride en mass to Riva Road in Edgewater. The spot where Cunningham was killed will be marked with a "Ghost Bike," according to the event page. The ride will continue down Riva Road to the point just before the Route 214 intersection. 

Anne Arundel County police are warning travelers on Riva Road to be prepared for traffic delays between 7:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. as a result of the bike ride.
