Missing Boater, 25, Found Dead In Waterway: Police

A woman was found dead in an Anne Arundel County waterway, police said. The boater, 25, had been reported missing.

GIBSON ISLAND, MD — Officers said they found a missing boater's body Thursday afternoon in an Anne Arundel County Waterway.

Authorities have not released the name of the woman, 25.

The Maryland Natural Resources Police was dispatched to the Magothy River near Gibson Island around 11 a.m. Thursday for a report of a missing boater.

Officers said she was last seen Wednesday evening operating a bowrider-style vessel.

Authorities said they found the vessel unmanned between Gibson Island and Dobbins Island.

The boat was anchored with personal possessions on board, police said.

Multiple agencies searched with aviation and dive units. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said its two fire boats and divers responded to the scene.

Divers said they recovered her body near the vessel's anchor line around 1 p.m.

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the death.

Authorities asked anyone who may have seen related vessel activity in the Magothy River Wednesday afternoon or early evening to contact the Natural Resources Police at 410-260-8888.
