Naval Academy Graduate Dies in Helicopter Crash Over Red Sea

Landon Jones, 35, was serving in Operation Enduring Freedom when his helicopter crashed into the Red Sea.

A U.S. Naval Academy graduate was among two Navy officers killed Sunday in a helicopter crash over the Red Sea.

Lt. Cmdr. Landon L. Jones, 35, of California, was a 2001 graduate of the Annapolis academy, according to a USNA spokesperson.

Jones and Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan S. Gibson, 32, of Oregon, both died Sunday after their MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter crashed into the Red Sea, according to navy officials.

The crash was "not due to any sort of hostile activity," according to the squadron the men were assigned to.
