Navy Commanders Tossed into Severn River

The Fall Parade at the U.S. Naval Academy filled with tradition and excellence, but some got a little wet.

Midshipmen continued a 20-year tradition Friday when they marched in uniform in the Fall Parade, then broke rank and tossed their company commanders in the Severn River.

"Plebes broke their ranks in the last 200 meters of the parade to chase their Company Commanders and throw them into the Severn River," according to the Naval Academy's Facebook page. "This tradition dates back nearly 20 years. Throwing the Company leaders into the Severn serves as a celebratory measure, marking the end of the fall parade season."
