Official: Navy Versus Air Force Game is GO

The official Navy Athletics Twitter account confirmed that the Saturday game was "GO."

Sports fans can rest easy—the Air Force versus Navy football match is happening this weekend, despite the federal government closure.

Late Wednesday night, the official Navy Athletics Twitter account confirmed that the game would be moving forward, saying the game was "GO."

The confirmation was sure to ease the spirits of fans and local businesses across Annapolis, who since Tuesday have been told the rivalry match was in limbo.

The Associated Press reported that the game could be played because they were being paid for with "non-appropriated funds." These are funds from outside sources, not approved through Congress, reports the AP.

Earlier this week, Navy Athletics Director Chet Gladchuk said he was distraught at the potential cancellation of the game, as it stood to bring $4 million from tickets, concessions and television and radio rights.

The players are set to be on the field for game time Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis.
