Police Make Arrest in Annapolis Apartment Shooting

Two men were injured after reportedly fleeing the scene of a shooting at Bens Drive on Sunday, police said.

Police arrested one of two men injured in a Sunday shooting at an Annapolis apartment complex on charges of attempted murder.

Annapolis police arrested Lowell Hawkins, 23, of Millersville and charged him with attempted first- and second-degree murder, assault, felony use of a firearm, possession of marijuana, trespassing and disorderly conduct.

Hawkins and an Annapolis man were injured after reportedly fleeing the scene of a shooting at Bens Drive on Sunday, according to police.

Hawkins suffered a gunshot wound to the torso, and the other man suffered multiple shots to the legs and one in the back, police said. Both men were treated and released from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Annapolis Police Chief Michael Pristoop, as well as as Mayor Josh Cohen, congratulated officers for being proactive in the investigation.

“I applaud the swift work of APD in making an arrest in this reckless and horrible shooting.  This senseless gun violence has no place in our community. We will pursue every avenue to get the perpetrators of gun violence off our streets and make our neighborhoods safer," Cohen said.
