Police: Stolen Car Struck Four Vehicles and Tree

Police said a stolen car was the cause of a five-car motor vehicle accident on Friday.

Annapolis police said a five-car crash on Friday may have been the result of a botched car theft.

An Annapolis police officer responded Friday evening to a report of a collision at the intersection of Charles Street and Cathedral Street. Upon arrival, the officer learned the driver of the vehicle that caused the wrecks had already fled.

According to the police report, witnesses said the driver of an Acura struck a parked Ford Mustang, then a parked Mini Cooper, then crossed the street and struck a Ford Taurus, a tree and finally a Lexus before fleeing the vehicle.

A woman approached the officer saying she was the owner of the Acura, which she said had been stolen. Her car had been locked, but she kept a valet key in the center console. When the officer checked the vehicle, the valet key was still in the ignition.

The Acura was towed along with the Ford Taurus. Other vehicles sustained minor damage, according to the report.
