Police: Thief Assaults Man With Pepper Spray

A man was attacked with pepper spray by a thief who then took a purse from the man's vehicle, police said.

Annapolis police said a man was robbed after being sprayed in the face with pepper spray by a thief.

On Saturday at 2 p.m., a man was returning to his vehicle after strapping in his six-month-old daughter in the backseat when he was approached by a man asking for a cigarette lighter, according to a police report.

The driver turned to face the man, and he was sprayed in the face with pepper spray. While the man was reeling from the spray, a purse was stolen from the vehicle, according to the report.

The purse belonged to the injured man's grandmother, who he was visiting at the time of the assault, according to the report. The purse contained a bottle of pills, cash and a debit card.

The area was canvassed in an attempt to locate the suspect with no results, police said.
