Power Outage Closes Georgetown East Elementary Monday

All students will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Georgetown Elementary School East will close at 10:30 a.m. Monday due to a power outage, according to Anne Arundel County Public School officials.

All students will be dismissed according to their normal methods of transportation.

"Walkers will be dismissed at that time, buses will pick up usual bus riders, and we sent notifications to parents to they can make arrangements for car riders," said AACPS spokesperson Maneka Monk.

There will be supervision in the building until all children have been dismissed, Monk said.

What began as a temporary outage became a more serious issue when an underground line that provides electricity to the school was disrupted, Monk said. Because of the nature of the outage and the extent of repairs necessary, the decision was made to dismiss students.

Monk said power should be restored today and that school should resume at Georgetown East Elementary per usual tomorrow.

Georgetown East Elementary is located at 111 Dogwood Rd., Annapolis.
