Secret Service Officer Arrested On Child Porn Charges In Maryland

A U.S. Secret Service officer was arrested on child pornography charges near his home in Caroline County, Maryland.

DENTON, MD — A U.S. Secret Service officer was arrested on child pornography charges near his home in Denton in Caroline County, Maryland State Police said.

Jeffrey Litteral, 52, is charged with possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, possession of obscene material, and distribution of obscene material.

Litteral was arrested on a warrant at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

"All Secret Service issued equipment has been retrieved and the employee’s access to all Secret Service facilities is terminated. These allegations, if proven true, are intolerable and are condemned by the Secret Service," the agency said in a statement.

The investigation began in 2017 when a Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division investigator received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about possible child pornography uploaded on the internet.

Police say they identified Litteral as the suspect and obtained a search warrant for his home. Investigators recovered electronic equipment that will be forensically examined, police said.

Litteral was held without bond. Police said additional charges are possible.
