Truxton Youth Triathlon Encourages Active Lifestyle
The annual event will take place on June 17.
Get ready to move Annapolis kids!
On June 17, the Truxton Youth Triathlon, which includes a run, swim and bike is returning for its sixth year at , according to the city website. Kids between the ages of 7 to 17 are invited to compete.
Approximately 200 kids participate in the triathlon annually, organizers said. The cost to register is $50 for residents and $62 for nonresidents. To participate in the family relay, the fee is $65 for residents and $81 for nonresidents.

The race is part of the Maryland Youth Triathlon Series, which aims to promote healthy lifestyle choices through multiple sports, according to its website. The other youth triathlons are held in Frederick, Columbia and Mount Airy.

Kids that compete in two or more of the triathlons receive a certificate of recognition from the state of Maryland.
The series was also created to raise awareness of melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer, according to the triathlon website. Melanoma can lead to death and is one of the more common forms of cancer in adolescents and young adults.
