ANNAPOLIS, MD — Attendees must show proof of vaccination and wear masks at indoor Annapolis Symphony Orchestra concerts this fall. The musicians announced the decision on Aug. 9. The policy applies until further notice.

"Since the pandemic began in early 2020, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra has successfully and consistently taken steps to ensure health and safety," the musicians said in a press release. "As we approach our 60th Anniversary season and the return to in person performances[,] we will continue to do so."

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention previously said immunized residents don't need face coverings indoors or outdoors. On July 27, the agency revised its advice to combat the highly contagious delta variant. Health officials now urge residents, whether inoculated or not, to mask up "in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission."

Anne Arundel County falls in the substantial category, CDC data indicated. Locals can track transmission at this link.

The orchestra's next performance is on Sept. 4 outdoors at Quiet Waters Park. The park has not yet announced its face covering or vaccine rules.

The symphony's next indoor show is on Oct. 1 at Maryland Hall. Ticket holders will get more information about proof of immunization beforehand.

"The health and safety of our family of musicians, staff, board, and audience is our highest priority," the symphony added, noting that its members and workers are all fully inoculated. "We want everyone to feel comfortable attending our performances, knowing that 100% of the people in the venue are vaccinated and masked, providing the best possible protection."
