Watch the First-Ever Foot Soldier Memorial Being Unveiled
Hundreds gathered to witness the unveiling of the Foot Soldier Memorial at Whitmore Park in Annapolis on Wednesday afternoon.
Carl Snowden officiated the unveiling of the Foot Soldier memorial at Whitmore Park on Wednesday afternoon.
To one side of Snowden stood dozens of local foot soldiers—those who attended the 1963 March on Washington. Their names were inscribed on the memorial, which stands 7 feet tall and is 14 feet wide and bears an image of Martin Luther King, Jr. on the day he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
Snowden said it was the first-ever memorial dedicated to the foot soldiers.
A crowd of hundreds gathered around Snowden and the foot soldiers to get the first glimpse of the memorial. When the moment finally arrived, a few photographers rushed in to get the best shot, drawing jeers from others during the culminating moment of the unveiling.
