A winter weather advisory remained in effect for some MD counties Friday as snow spread across the region. See the latest estimated totals.
A winter storm moved over parts of Maryland on Friday, prompting schools to delay or cancel and causing a treacherous morning commute for motorists.
The Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metros were on the northern edge of a storm system sliding by to the south late Thursday night into Friday morning, forecasters said. Earlier Friday morning, light snow spread eastward across the region, especially along and south of Interstate 66, according to the National Weather Service.
While winter weather advisories were canceled in some counties, several alerts remain in place. An advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. for parts of Anne Arundel and Montgomery counties.

"Given temperatures will be in the 20s, snow is expected to accumulate on all untreated surfaces. A light snow will overspread the advisory area, with slightly higher amounts possible in any banding features," the National Weather Service wrote. "As snow winds down, a light freezing drizzle is possible into the afternoon."
Meanwhile, light snow is expected to linger from Winchester to Baltimore through late Friday morning, forecasters said.
