UPDATE: Worker Injured at Bay Bridge
Traffic delays are likely due to rescue efforts.
Updated (12:10 p.m.)—A contract worker at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was struck in the neck by a falling 5-gallon paint can, according to authorities.
The 52-year-old man was transported to nearby Sandy Point State Park where he would be flown by Medevac helicopter, said Sgt. Jonathan Green of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.
Keith Swindle, division chief for Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said the can struck the man as he was on a platform 15 feet below the roadway, and he fell down on the platform.
Green described the man's injuries as serious, but not life-threatening. Green said the paint bucket was being lowered to the man, and the handle broke, falling and striking his neck.
