PASADENA, MD — Reports said a woman's call to 911 recorded the moment that she and her husband were fatally shot Sunday in their Pasadena home, providing evidence that prompted the arrest of a Nottingham man.

Citing charging documents, the Capital Gazette said Jeanna Loraine Hayes, 54, could be heard asking "Tony" not to shoot her. Tony was arguing with "Charlie" about money during the call that came in around 1:55 p.m., The Baltimore Banner reported.

Police later identified the suspect as Anthony Louis Reyes, 61, and the other victim as William Charles Hayes, 56. Online court records show that the day of the shooting was Reyes' birthday.

"The suspect is recorded shooting what appears to sound like a firearm, at which point the female is heard calling to 'Charlie' and again asking not to be shot," detectives wrote in the charging documents, according to The Banner. "The firearm can be heard being shot several times before no voices can be heard anymore."

The Hayeses were both pronounced dead at the scene at their house in the 1700 block of Twickenham Road, officers said.

"When it comes to the 911 call, that was fantastic," Anne Arundel County police spokesperson Lt. A.J. Gardiner said, according to WJZ. "It's unfortunate we weren't here in time to prevent it, but the information that was relayed really led us to a position where we could start isolating other things."

Authorities said the suspect and the victims knew each other. Gardiner said the parties had a personal and professional relationship, according to WBAL-TV.

Gardiner added that the Hayeses operated a business out of their home, WBAL reported.

The block where the shooting happened is listed as the address for CW Hayes Home Improvement LLC in state business records.

Anne Arundel County Police Chief Amal Awad said the Long Point community, where the shooting happened, is a quiet waterfront neighborhood with family homes and little to no crime, WJZ reported.

"We are very surprised to get a call like this here," Awad said, according to WJZ. "We know we have family members who are grieving tonight, and this entire community is grieving, and they are going to have to journey forward trying to make sense of what happened."

Toni Arnold told WJZ her daughter lived with the victims, but she was not home at the time of the shooting.

The Capital Gazette said somebody called police around 4 p.m. Sunday, reporting that they had received a phone call from Reyes and that Reyes admitted to shooting "Charlie" and "Jeanie."

The Banner said Reyes told the witness that he was going to Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Hanover. The witness gave Reyes' license plate number to officers and told them he drove a black Toyota sedan with Mississippi tags, The Banner reported.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department said its Real-Time Information Center, which opened this February, then used automated license plate readers to track Reyes' car.

Officers said they found the suspect's vehicle in Hanover around 6:27 p.m. near Severn Road and Ridge Road.

Authorities said they tried to stop the car, but the driver fled, sparking a chase.

Police said the pursuit ended near Quarterfield Road off Interstate 97 in Severn.

Officers said Reyes resisted arrest, the Capital Gazette reported. The Banner said he was taken into custody at 6:34 p.m.

Reyes and an officer were both injured in the struggle and taken to a hospital, the Capital Gazette said.

Court records say Reyes was charged with two counts each of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

Judge Thomas J. Pryal on Monday ordered Reyes to be held without bond until his trial, the file says.

The file does not list an attorney for Reyes.
