County Hires First-Ever Economist
Scott Shaffer's new role will provide big-picture economic perspective on the county and more closely analyze the impact of local legislation.

Anne Arundel County's first-ever economist has been hired by County Executive Laura Neuman.
Scott Shaffer was appointed to the position of County Economist this week. He is responsible for providing assistance to the county's Budget and Finance Office in data collection and analysis.
Shaffer's role will allow the budget office to "look more deeply into the economic impact of legislative proposals," according to a press release issued Thursday.
"I am looking to Scott to provide data for us to make informed decisions to serve the citizens of Anne Arundel County,” said Neuman. “He is an advocate for ‘you can’t manage what you don’t measure,’ and his expertise in process improvement and critical analysis will guide our decision-making process with a data-driven approach."
Shaffer is an Anne Arundel County native with two decades of experience as a business analyst.
Before working for the county, he served as Project Specialist for FTI Consulting, Inc. He has also served as financial analyst for companies such as M&T Bank and Bank of America Corp., according to the release.
