Popular Clothing Store Closes Annapolis, St. Michaels Locations
A popular clothier closed its Annapolis and St. Michaels stores. The business is shuttering all its North American locations, reports said.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A British clothing store closed its only Maryland locations recently amid reports that the company is shutting down all of its North American outposts.
The FatFace in downtown Annapolis was shuttered when Patch visited on Aug. 27. The St. Michaels location closed within the past week, two nearby businesses told Patch.
The Annapolis retailer sold men's and women's clothes from its storefront at 161 Main St. It was located between Acme Bar & Grill and The Lucky Knot.

The shelves are now empty, and all FatFace branding has been removed from the inside of the store.
"We want to thank all our wonderful customers for your support over the years," a note posted on the front door said. "This store is now closed."

The St. Michaels FatFace was located at 107 S. Talbot St.

The only FatFace locations still open in North America are in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Ontario, Canada. The brand also has a partnership selling its clothes in 33 Von Maur department stores across the U.S., mainly in the Midwest and the South.
The Annapolis FatFace opened in October 2020, the Capital Gazette previously reported.
FatFace debuted in 1988, selling T-shirts to skiers. It blossomed into a high-end streetwear brand with over 180 locations in the United Kingdom as of March.
Reuters said Next, a British clothier and online store, bought FatFace in 2023 for $140 million.

FatFace is in the process of closing all 23 of its locations in the U.S. and Canada, Fast Company reported in August. The business told Fast Company that rising costs made the physical store model unviable.
FatFace told Patch its three stores in Maine closed by Sept. 3.
"We're focusing on supporting our store colleagues at this time," a FatFace spokesperson told Patch on Thursday.
Retail Gazette said the closures will result in 145 job cuts as FatFace transitions to an online-only business model in North America.
"Looking ahead, we remain focused on scaling our digital capabilities and bringing our high-quality designs to a wider audience," a FatFace spokesperson told TheIndustry.fashion.
Patch asked FatFace to confirm that it is closing all of its North American stores. We also asked the business to confirm the number of layoffs this would cause. FatFace did not respond to either of those questions.
