ANNAPOLIS, MD — Lisa D. B. Rodvien will not run for a third term representing District 6 on the Anne Arundel County Council, the Democrat announced Friday. The Annapolis resident could have sought one more term of four years.

"It has been a true honor to serve and represent the residents of District 6 and Anne Arundel County," Rodvien wrote on Facebook. "I am deeply grateful for your support, trust, and collaboration throughout my tenure."

Rodvien was originally an attorney, but she transitioned to teaching. She worked for Anne Arundel County Public Schools from 2010 to 2023, and she taught at Arundel Middle School in Odenton during her term.

"Together, we have worked to make significant progress on key issues such as strengthening our public schools, protecting and preserving our local environment, and addressing housing concerns," Rodvien said. "I am proud of what we’ve accomplished and thankful for the community’s dedication to these causes."

Rodvien was elected in 2018. She is currently in her second stint as the County Council's vice chair. She represents the peninsula between the Severn River and the South River.

"While I am stepping away from this role, my commitment to our community remains steadfast," she said. "I look forward to seeing new leadership emerge and to the continued growth and success of our area. Please rest assured that I will continue fighting for our community for the remainder of my term - and beyond - and I hope you will continue to working with me."

Rodvien's departure from a heavily blue district is likely to create a competitive Democratic primary election in 2026.

"Thank you once again for the honor of a lifetime and the privilege of working alongside so many committed individuals," she said. "Your ongoing support has meant the world to me and gives me great hope for our future, even in these challenging times. In the famously (paraphrased) words of Winston Churchill, we will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER give up!!"
