Sewage Spills Into Creek, Cleanup Underway In Anne Arundel County: Officials
Thousands of gallons of sewage spilled into an Anne Arundel County creek. Officials warned against swimming in this area.
SEVERNA PARK, MD — A Sunday pipe break in Severna Park spilled 16,200 gallons of sewage into Cypress Creek, officials said. Cypress Creek feeds into the Magothy River.
The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works said it heard about the leak at 5 p.m. and contained the overflow at 9:30 p.m.
"The overflow has been reported to the County Department of Health and the Maryland Department of the Environment," the Department of Public Works said in a Monday press release announcing the spill. "DPW crews posted signs to alert the community. The affected area was limed and vacuumed. Any necessary clean up activities will continue today."

Officials don't know what caused the "force main break in the 800 block of Ritchie Highway."
"County Health officials advise people coming in contact with the affected ground to immediately wash well with soap and warm water," the Department of Public Works said. "Clothing should also be washed."
