BEL AIR, MD — The Bel Air Christmas Parade is set for Sunday. Marching bands, costumed characters, scouts, Santa and others are planning to march or roll down Main Street.

Events are planned both before and after the parade, which starts at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

  • It will start at Main Street at Courtland Street.
  • Participants then travel down Main Street to Lee Street.
  • The route ends at Lee Street and Hickory Avenue.

Road closures and delays are expected to last from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, according to the Bel Air Police Department.

Main Street, Hickory Ave and surrounding cross streets will be impacted by the closures, police said.

This will be the 31st annual Christmas parade, and the first time the town has had its December parade since 2018.

In 2020, the Bel Air Christmas Parade was canceled due to coronavirus.

In 2019, the parade was called off because of inclement weather.

The 2021 Bel Air Christmas Parade will be at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3.

Before the parade, band Route 66 will perform in front of the Circuit Courthouse at 2:30 p.m.

Afterward, a community bonfire and sing-along are planned in Shamrock Park with free cookies and hot chocolate at 4:15 p.m.

The town tree lighting will follow at Town Hall around 4:45 p.m.

All events are weather-permitting. The parade will not be rescheduled in the case of inclement weather.

Here's the forecast from the National Weather Service for Bel Air. It calls for a high of 47 degrees and a low of 40, with a 60 percent chance of rain in the evening.
