ABINGDON, MD — An apartment fire broke out Friday in Abingdon Friday, according to officials.

A neighbor noticed the fire in the 300 block of Tiree Court shortly after 12 p.m., the fire marshal reported. Because it began outside, the blaze did not trigger any smoke alarms or sprinklers.

Investigators said the fire was caused by a heater igniting combustibles on the exterior balcony.
