Congressional, TPC Potomac Golf Pros Among 2023 Special Award Winners

Professionals at Congressional Country Club and TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm earned top awards from the Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA.

BETHESDA/POTOMAC, MD — Golf professionals at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda and TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac earned top awards from the Middle Atlantic Section of the PGA of America.

Jason Epstein, director of golf and athletics at Congressional Country Club, received the 2023 Bill Strausbaugh Award, while Megan Leineweber, assistant golf professional at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, received the 2023 Assistant PGA Professional of the Year.

The Bill Strausbaugh Award is presented to a PGA Professional for outstanding involvement in charitable and community activities, distinguished service mentoring fellow PGA professionals, especially in the area of employment and club relations, and integrity and character.

The criteria reflect the characteristics and qualities that the late Bill Strausbaugh possessed during his lifetime as a PGA professional and his service to MAPGA and his community.

A PGA of America member since 1996, Epstein leads a team of professionals at Congressional Country Club, one of the most storied golf facilities in the U.S., which has hosted five major championships. As both director of golf and athletics at Congressional, Epstein directs hundreds of club activities every week.

Leineweber, a resident of Potomac, is the recipient of the 2023 Middle Atlantic PGA’s Assistant PGA Professional of the Year Award, which bestows special recognition on an assistant PGA professional for distinguished service to his and her peers and the MAPGA and in his and her commitment to improving opportunities for fellow assistants in the MAPGA.

A PGA of America member since 2010, Leineweber has held numerous positions at high profile golf facilities across the country, and was the first female golf professional on staff at Stonewall Golf Club in Pennsylvania in 2016.

Epstein, Leineweber and the other 2023 MAPGA Awards recipients will be honored on March 3 at the MAPGA Hall of Fame & Awards Banquet at Lansdowne Resort & Spa in Leesburg.
