BETHESDA, MD — Westfield Montgomery is partnering with The Napkin Network, a Bethesda-based nonprofit organization, on an initiative to help families struggling to afford diapers and other essential baby items.

The initiative, called the Napkin Nook, aims to bridge the gap between families in need and members of the public eager to help, recognizing the challenges of motherhood and the need for baby items in the community. One in three families struggle to afford diapers for their children, according to The Napkin Network.

"The Napkin Network is here to assist in this messy, wonderful, challenging, and necessary journey known best as 'motherhood,'" Lindsay Gill, the nonprofit group’s founder, said in a statement Friday.

At the Napkin Nook at Westfield Montgomery, visitors will be greeted with a mural designed by Hannah Johnson, a Montgomery County Public School student and winner of "Best in Show" at the 2023 Quince Orchard Spring Art Show.

"I was honored when asked to be the commissioned artist for the Family Lounge," Hannah said. “I love supporting the Napkin Nook and integrating its colors into my design.”

Hannah’s mother, Nikki Johnson, helped with the mural's creation. Johnson is an art educator at Poolesville Elementary School.

Zeina Davis, director of marketing for Westfield Montgomery, said that as a native of Montgomery County and a mother, she was pleased to work with The Napkin Network on "the betterment of mothers and families who contribute to the vitality of our center and are at the heart of our vibrant community."
