High-Speed Chase In Virginia And Maryland Ends In Arrest: Police

Police arrested a man accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase in Virginia before crashing and fleeing on foot in Maryland.

ROCKVILLE, MD — A driver was arrested Wednesday after leading police on a chase from Virginia to Maryland, where he crashed into multiple vehicles and tried to flee on foot, authorities said.

Officials said the incident happened just before 7 p.m., when Virginia State Police got a call about an "erratic driver" on Interstate 495. A trooper tried to stop the driver, but authorities said he sped off at about 100 mph.

After entering Maryland, he struck multiple vehicles — including a trooper's car. One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

In an interview with Patch, a Maryland State Police spokesman said the suspect — a 26-year-old male — then smashed into a jersey wall on the Capital Beltway in the Bethesda area.

The man then fled on foot and was later arrested at a McDonald's on River Road, officials said.

A rifle was found near where the driver crashed. Authorities told Patch that the gun's serial number was altered. A weapon without a serial number makes it harder for police to trace.

The incident remains under investigation.
