MOCO Student School Board Member Elected For 2022-23 Academic Year
A Walt Whitman High School junior was elected by his peers to serve as the student member of the Montgomery County Board of Education.

BETHESDA, MD — Arvin Kim, a junior at Walt Whitman High School, was chosen by his classmates to serve as the student member of the Montgomery County Board of Education for the 2022-23 school year, the district said in the release.
"In the past five years, Mr. Kim has served as vice president of the countywide Middle School Student Government Association and the treasurer and chief of staff for the Montgomery County Regional Student Government Association," the news release from MCPS says. "He has advocated for students on issues including increased funding, mental health days and safer schools at the national, state and local levels."
More than 56,000 students in the district voted — Kim won 58.7 percent of the vote. Ibrahima (Baba) Cisse, a junior at Albert Einstein High School and his opponent, earned 40.8 percent of the vote, the district said.

"He has served as a director on the SMOB Advisory Cabinet," MCPS said of Kim in its news release. "He is also a founding member of MoCo Pride Youth, a certified workshop presenter for the Maryland Association of Student Councils and vice president of the Asian American Progressive Student Union."
Kim is taking over for current student board member Hana O'Looney, who will graduate from MCPS in June. She is a student at Richard Montgomery High School.
