Montgomery Transportation Awarded Bikeways Grant

The award of $269,834 will fund final design, purchase, and installation of bike-share stations in Bethesda, White Flint, and Twinbrook.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – The Montgomery County Department of Transportation has received a Bikeways Grant Award from the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Bikeways Program to install four bike-share stations along the Bethesda Trolley Trail. The award of $269,834 will fund final design, purchase and installation of the stations that will connect existing bike-share in Bethesda with new grant-funded stations to be installed in White Flint and Twinbrook in the spring of 2018.

This is the MCDOT’s third Bikeways Grant Award. The first grant was used to create a Wheaton Bikeshare network and the second grant will be used for the White Flint and Twinbrook stations.

In addition, a grant using funds from Maryland’s Transportation Alternatives Program was awarded to MCDOT’s Safe Routes to School program by the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board. MCDOT received $46,840 for pedestrian and traffic safety enforcement and education at targeted schools.
