New MoCo Semi-Pro Soccer Team To Kick Off Inaugural Season In Bethesda

The MSI Golden Knights will be playing their first pre-season game against World Class Premier at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — The Washington, D.C. area’s newest semi-professional soccer team is getting ready to kick off its pre-season games in Bethesda this weekend.

Montgomery Soccer Inc. founded its semi-pro team, the Golden Knights, with a vision to elevate the local soccer scene. The MSI Golden Knights will be playing their first pre-season game against World Class Premier of Gaithersburg at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, with kickoff at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13.

The MSI Golden Knights roster will include a mix of homegrown talent and seasoned athletes.

"At MSI, we are driven by a shared love for soccer and a genuine desire to create a positive impact in Montgomery County's sporting ecosystem," MSI Executive Director Gus Delgado said in a statement. "We aim to provide local talent with a platform to shine, instilling values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play."

Founded in 1971, Montgomery Soccer Inc. said it is committed to providing a “holistic training environment to nurture and hone the skills of its players.” Training facilities will be state-of-the-art, complemented by personalized coaching sessions that focus on the individual growth of each player.

As part of its community outreach, MSI plans to collaborate with local schools, youth programs, and charitable organizations to promote sportsmanship and healthy competition among young athletes.

"We believe in the power of soccer to unite communities, inspire the next generation of athletes, and create lasting memories," Delgado said. "MSI will strive to be a catalyst for positive change, on and off the field."

MSI Golden Knights is seeking local partnerships and sponsorships to strengthen its presence in Montgomery County.

The team's 10-game regular season kicks off against Street Footie Football Club on Friday, Aug. 19 in Gaithersburg.
