Pyle Student Sings On Stage With Green Day

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong described the performance as "pretty much the most memorable moment of my entire life."

A Pyle Middle School student had a moment to remember at the Patriot Center April 4, singing on stage with Green Day and being awarded a guitar by band frontman Billie Joe Armstrong.

Armstrong picked 12-year-old Davis Gestiehr from the crowd at the concert after calling out for volunteers to sing the third verse of “Longview,” a classic from the punk band’s 1994 album “Dookie.”

“You really know this song? You swear to God?” Armstrong asked the boy before inviting him up on stage.

“It could have been anybody, he just happened to see Davis and thought, ‘Why don’t we try a kid?’” said Gestiehr’s mother, Debby, who attended the concert along with her son.

Davis, who hopes to pursue singing professionally and is no stranger to performing in front of crowds—he belted out the National Anthem at Nationals Park last summer—impressed the audience with his enthusiastic performance.

“That was pretty much the most memorable moment of my entire life. This is yours, dude,” Armstrong said following the song, giving him one of his guitars – a Fender Telecaster.

Gestiehr said security escorted the family to their car following the performance to ensure no one attempted to take the guitar, which Armstrong has played at performances and in music videos.

“I can’t describe how good it felt,” Gestiehr told Patch. “I was up on stage pursuing my career. I’ve always wanted to do that, so I was really happy I got to show off my talents.”
