Restaurants Across MoCo, NoVA Participating In Black Restaurant Week
Greater Washington, D.C. Black Restaurant Week is dedicated to celebrating the flavors of African American, African, and Caribbean cuisine.
MARYLAND/VIRGINIA — Matchbox and Big Buns, two area restaurant chains owned by Thompson Hospitality, are among the restaurants participating in Greater Washington, D.C. Black Restaurant Week, an event that runs through Sunday, July 30.
Matchbox has locations across the D.C. area, including in Bethesda, Silver Spring, Rockville Arlington, Vienna, Merrifield, Reston and Ashburn. The restaurant is offering a special menu to celebrate Black Restaurant Week.
Among Big Buns’ locations are Arlington, McLean, Vienna, Reston and Herndon. Reston-based Thompson Hospitality, founded by Warren Thompson in 1992, acquired Big Buns in 2018 and acquired Matchbox in 2020.

Thompson Hospitality is the nation’s largest minority-owned hospitality business, providing food service for universities and corporations, as owning stakes in restaurants.
Several restaurants in Silver Spring also are participating in Greater Washington, D.C. Black Restaurant Week, including Miss Toya’s Creole House, All Set Restaurant & Bar, The Society Restaurant & Lounge, The Angry Jerk and The Breakfast Club.

Black Restaurant Week is dedicated to celebrating the flavors of African American, African, and Caribbean cuisine. In its fourth year, Greater Washington, DC Black Restaurant Week lets the public discover Black-owned restaurants food trucks, sweets, and more across the D.C. area.
