For Second Time This Month, County Adds Fewer Than 100 New Cases

BETHESDA, MD — For the second time this month, Montgomery County has registered fewer than 100 COVID-19 cases in a day.

The county reported 87 new infections on Monday, according to the Maryland Department of Health. The last time health officials saw fewer than 100 daily cases was on Feb. 16, when there were 91 new infections.

Monday's addition brings the county to 62,523 confirmed cases since early March.

Two more people died from the virus overnight, official data showed, bringing the local death toll to 1,353.

The latest fatality count does not include the 45 others whose deaths were linked to the virus but never confirmed by a lab test. For now, they are considered "probable deaths."

Montgomery County — which is home to roughly 1 million people — continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second-highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 72,250, according to the latest figures.

Across Maryland, there have been 376,966 coronavirus cases, 7,550 confirmed deaths, and 182 "probable deaths." Of the 992 patients being hospitalized for the disease statewide, 276 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
