“Sunday Salon Series” Kicks off With Local Writer L.M. Elliot
Restaurant and Author Unite to Host Event Celebrating Renaissance Florence.
From Cesco-Osteria: On Sunday, January 29th from 5-7 PM, the award-winning restaurant Cesco Osteria will host a unique evening of live music, poetry, and conversation. L.M. Elliott, the New York Times best-selling author of Da Vinci’s Tiger, will discuss Leonardo da Vinci’s first portrait of Ginevra de’Benci and the cultural milieu of Renaissance Italy while Chef Francesco Ricchi will provide beverages and food.
“I am so looking forward to talking about the young Leonardo da Vinci and this revolutionary piece of art, the Medici politics and intrigue surrounding it, and the remarkable woman in the portrait in such a convivial and delicious event. The idea of a ‘salon’ or as we would call it today, a ‘meeting of the minds,’ was incredibly important to the culture of Renaissance Florence and I am very excited to be helping Cesco Osteria recreate that experience,” said Elliott.
The event will begin with live music, beverages, and stuzzichini (“little bites”). After snacking and settling in, Elliott will discuss Leonardo’s first portrait, Ginevra de’Benci and her poetry, and the deadly politics and master artists surrounding the famed Medici Court in Renaissance Florence.
