District Heights Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder, Carjacking In Chevy Chase

Police said a man was seriously injured during the attempted carjacking near South Park Avenue and The Hills Plaza in Chevy Chase.

CHEVY CHASE, MD — A Prince George's County woman faces charges after authorities said she shot a man in Chevy Chase during an attempt to steal his car.

Roniyah Thomas, 20, of District Heights, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and attempted carjacking following the Feb. 4 incident, Montgomery County police said in a news release.

According to authorities, officers were called to the intersection of South Park Avenue and The Hills Plaza shortly before 7:45 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigators later determined the man was standing outside of his Subaru when Thomas approached him and demanded his car keys, according to police. When the victim resisted, police said Thomas shot him before running away.

An arrest warrant for Thomas was issued last week, and she was taken into custody Thursday at her home in District Heights.
