10 Students Charged For Making Threats Of Violence Against PGC Schools In Past 5 Weeks

PGPD has received 47 school-related threats and charged 10 students in connection to those threats since school started 5 weeks ago.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Since school started Aug. 26 for Prince George's County Public Schools students, 47 school-related threats have been investigated by the county police department's homeland security division. Ten students have been charged in connection to these students.

The 10 students who are facing criminal charges range in age between 13 to 16 years old. Detectives also identified four additional juveniles younger than the age of 13 who are connected to these threats. Due to Maryland law, the agency cannot charge those juveniles, the police department stated.

"The Prince George’s County Police Department will continue to aggressively investigate all threats of violence at county schools that are primarily spread through various social media platforms. We take each threat seriously and when possible, we will charge those responsible," the police department started. "The agency urges parents and guardians to talk to their children about this serious topic as we all collectively work to keep students and staff safe."
