Aisha Braveboy Wins Democratic Primary In Prince George's County Executive Race

Prince George's County State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy declared victory at a watch party held in New Carrollton Tuesday night.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Unofficial results posted online show that Prince George's County State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy won the Democratic primary for county executive during Tuesday's special primary election.

The special election narrows down the field to determine who will fill the last two years of former Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks’ seat after her election to the U.S. Senate in November. Braveboy declared victory at a watch party held in New Carrollton Tuesday night where she was joined by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore.

Democratic Candidates

  • Aisha Braveboy: 10,435 votes, 43.06%
  • Rushern L. Baker, III: 5,117 votes, 21.11%
  • Calvin S. Hawkins, Jr.: 4,899 votes, 20.22%
  • Jolene Ivey: 1,661 votes, 6.85%
  • Alonzo T. Washington: 1,341 votes, 5.53%
  • Moisette Tonya Sweat: 416 votes, 1.72%
  • Ron Hunt: 202 votes, 0.83%
  • Marcellus Crews: 120 votes, 0.50%
  • Albert Slocum: 43 votes, 0.18%

Republican Candidates

  • George E. McDermott: 352 votes, 33.98%
  • Jesse A. Peed: 336 votes, 32.43%
  • Jonathan White: 348 votes, 33.59%

Voters also chose party candidates to fill the seat of Council Councilmember for District 5. County Council Chair Jolene Ivey recently won a special election to an at-large county council seat and withdrew from the campaign for District 5; therefore, her seat also needs to be filled.

  • Theresa Mitchell Dudley: 176 votes, 6.77%
  • Kendal Gray: 246 votes, 9.47%
  • Ryan Middleton: 781 votes, 30.05%
  • Kayce Munyeneh: 29 votes, 1.12%
  • Christopher R. Wade: 153 votes, 5.89%

Republican Candidate

  • Fred Price, Jr.: 91 votes, 100.00%
