Allen Pond Nostalgia, A Magic Veggie Makes an Appearance, School's Out...For Thursday

Five things you need to know today in Bowie.

1.) AROUND TOWN » Do you have kids? Do they love magic? The Great Zucchini is performing free in Bowie this weekend, don't miss it!

2.) YOU SAID IT » Brian Goldman - The Fourth of July in Bowie use to be a community event of music, dancing, boating, good food vendors, family and friends. The Bowie Cheer Leaders and lastly fireworks. Now it is nothing more than fireworks on uncomfortable hot metal benches and overpriced stadium food and drinks. It is basically a BaySox game without the BaySox. It may have made logistics easier for the city and police but we have lost a great community gathering where we sat in the grass, eat our own food, walked, fished and boated in the pond. Yet another loss to bigger city progress. I and many others will miss Allen Pond and won't be going to the stadium. I tried it once and that was a big let down. So sad. On why he prefers Allen Pond Park over Prince George's Stadium for Fourth of July festivities in Bowie

3.) WEATHER » Thursday should be mostly sunny with a high of 84 degrees. Temps will cool off significantly in the evening with a predicted low of 53. Get Bowie's full forecast on weather.gov.
