BOWIE, MD — It's fitting as Mother's Day approaches, Patch is honoring someone who not only cares for her own mother, she takes care of other people's mothers as well.

Gloria Gaddy calls her daughter Candice Carter her angel, which is why she nominated her to be one of Patch's Local Heroes.

Carter grew up in D.C. and attended Roots Academy, where she was in the school's first graduation class. She went on to Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, and later graduated with a degree in health education from Morgan State University.

According to Gaddy, her daughter always had a caring heart for seniors and hasn't missed a day of work in over nine years at the Brookdale at Woodward Estates in Bowie.

"Today as the COVID-19 keeps causing so much pain, she takes time to listen to her residents and is preparing the best gifts for each one for Mother's Day," Gaddy said.
