Beat the Heat on Ice in Bowie this Summer

Bundle up, Bowie, and check out these ice rink activities and classes.

The weather may be on the rise in outside, but there's one place in town where where the temperature is typically a cool 55 degrees—the Bowie Ice Arena.

The arena is still accepting students for its summer skating camps and group lessons, and local residents are eligible for discounted rates—$10 off camps and $5 off group lessons.

To sign up for a camp, fill out this form and mail it or bring it to the Bowie Ice Arena, located at 3330 Northview Dr., during business hours. 

Half-Day Small Skate Camps

These camps are for children ages three to six. Camp takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Daily activities include on- and off-ice instruction, games, and crafts. Before and after care is not available. The first week of camp started July 8 and ends July 12. The second week begins Aug. 19 and ends Aug. 23. One week of camp costs $110, and two weeks cost $195.

Full-Day Summer Skating Camps

These camps are for children ages six to 13. Camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Daily activities include on- and off-ice instruction, games, outdoor activities and crafts. Before and after care is available for $30 per week.The first week of camp is from July 22 to July 26. The second week of camp is Aug. 12 to Aug. 16. One week of camp costs $210, and two weeks cost $400.

Summer Group Lessons

Learn to skate during six half-hour classes in July and August. There are two classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays for three weeks. The July session dates are July 9-25 and the August session dates are Aug. 6-22.

Show class for all levels are from 5-5:30 p.m. Children ages three to five and skaters at the Gamma and Delta levels have class from 5:30-6 p.m. Pre-Alpha level, Alpha level, Beta level, freestyle students and adults have class from 6-6:30 p.m.

Students in the show classes will perform in the Bowie Ice Arena’s Summer Show August 25. Skaters who attend 12 classes will be eligible for solos, duets, and trios and quartets.

Each session costs $80 for non-residents.

Specialty Camps

Athletes interested in improving skills in figure skating and ice hockey can sign up for specialty camps. Advanced freestyle skaters can learn more about camp opportunities here. Hockey players can learn more about the development camp here.
