Black History Month Events Study Culture, Race In Prince George's
Prince George's County will celebrate Black History Month with daily events. Topics include food, entertainment and equity.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Prince George's County will celebrate Black History Month with daily virtual events throughout February. The happenings will explore a variety of aspects of Black culture.
Highlights include:
- Feb. 3: Discussion with Black lacrosse players
- Feb. 5: Talk on military heroes
- Feb. 9: Panel about Negro League Baseball
- Feb. 13: Analysis of the Black dollar in Prince George's County
- Feb. 18: Healthy soul food cooking demo
- Feb. 27: Family festival with performances, storytellers, crafts and a virtual market
- Feb. 28: Analysis of the past, present and future of the Black Lives Matter movement
Renowned dance team Step Afrika will teach a step class every Saturday. Prince George's County Public Schools and the Prince George's County Memorial Library System will also host weekly book readings for children each Saturday. To top it off, there will be daily talks about the history of health care in the Black community.

"This year’s national theme The Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity is the perfect backdrop for the past year," Parks and Recreation Director Bill Tyler said in a press release. "The Black family has confronted social and racial injustice, as well as, healthcare disparities and the economic hardships of a global pandemic."
