Case of Mumps Confirmed at University of Maryland
Out of three suspected cases, one has been confirmed. Mumps is contagious.

University of Maryland officials have confirmed that at least one student has been diagnosed with mumps, and two others are suspected of having it as well, WTOP reported Friday.
Officials said the three cases are believed to be linked.
All UMD students are required to be vaccinated against mumps, but Dr. David McBride, head of the college's health services, said the vaccine is not always 100-percent effective.

McBride said mumps is contagious, and is often spread through contact with saliva.
Symptoms of the mumps include fever, headache and body aches. It can also include a swelling of the salivary glands, located at the angle of the jaw.
