CHEVERLY, MD -- A man has died after being struck by a dump truck near Cheverly just outside the D.C. boundary, police say.

Police were called to the 1700 block of Kenilworth Avenue to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a dump truck, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

Britt Ray, 37, was pronounced dead. The driver remained at the scene.

"The preliminary investigation reveals the dump truck had just come off the ramp from southbound I-295 and was on the overpass preparing to go north on Kenilworth Avenue," the report states. "Ray was in the roadway on the overpass attempting to cross the lanes of traffic when he was struck. He was not in a crosswalk."
