Fourth of July Fireworks in Bowie

In a new tradition, the city's annual fireworks celebration will be held at Prince George's Stadium.

Looking to celebrate the Fourth of July with your neighbors in Bowie? Patch has all the details on the city's shindig.

In a new holiday tradition, the city's annual Independence Day celebration will be held at Prince George's Stadium. Traditionally, the Bowie's fireworks display has been held at Allen Pond Park. The decision to move the fireworks was based on safety, as well as the availability of ample parking, bathrooms and other amenities at the Baysox's stadium.

“The setup at the ballpark allows us to better control access, and hopefully eliminate those types of concerns; while at the same time, we expect to spend less money on staffing. I think it’s a ‘win-win’ for everyone,” Bowie Mayor G. Frederick Robinson said in a statement earlier this year.

The celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday evening with a concert by the Fabulous Hubcaps. There will be a short flag ceremony at 9 p.m., with fireworks expected to begin at around 9:15 p.m.

The event is a joint effort between the city and the Baysox. The Baysox will provide parking assistance and other event support, according to the city.

There is no Baysox game scheduled on July 4. Parking is free, and the stadium gates will open at 6 p.m.
