Man Fighting For His Life In PG County After Hit And Run: Police

Police are investigating after an apparent hit and run in Prince George's County left a man in critical condition.

OXON HILL, MD -- A man has been critically injured after an apparent hit and run in Oxon Hill earlier this week, police say.

Police were called to the 100 block of Monument Avenue in Oxon Hill at around 9:10 p.m. March 4 to a report of an injured person in the roadway, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department.

"When officers arrived on scene they discovered a 27-year-old-male who was in and out of consciousness in the roadway," the report states. "There were no witnesses present who could relay any information to officers as to how the man sustained the injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital suffering from trauma to his head and leg. He is currently listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit."

After further investigation, police found surveillance video which showed the man trying to cross Monument Avenue when he was struck by a sedan traveling from Rivercrest Road, the report adds.

"Video shows the sedan, after impact, slowed down for a moment and then sped back up towards the Beltway and left the scene," the report states. "The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk. We have identified the victim and notified his family."
