Holiday Market, Live Music, and Movie Screenings Slated for National Harbor

The venue in Prince George's County will host holiday events starting with a tree-lighting ceremony Nov. 15.

National Harbor Waterfront will churn out holiday a full schedule of cheer this year for Prince George’s County residents.

With a carousel, a festive market, and movie screenings of holiday favorites like “Elf,” “The Polar Express,” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” there will be plenty of holiday fun.

National Harbor Tree Lighting -- Saturday, Nov. 15

Noon to 9:30 p.m. at the National Harbor Plaza, 165 Waterfront St., National Harbor

Activities: Enjoy hot chocolate and holiday goodies, warm up at one of National Harbor’s fire pits with Smeeps (s’mores made with Peeps®), and create holiday cards for soldiers under the tent on the pier. Plus, live holiday entertainment, holiday movie screenings, fireworks, and more.

Tree Lighting Schedule:

  • 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.: Holiday Information Center
  • 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Harbor Holiday Market (on American Way)
  • 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.: Pictures with Santa at The Capital Wheel
  • 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.: Choir performance
  • 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Holiday movie screening on the Plaza & dog photos with Santa at The Black Dog
  • 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Card making for our troops overseas
  • 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Victorian Carolers
  • 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.: Holiday band performance
  • 6 p.m.: Tree Lighting Show and The Capital Wheel “snow” light show occurs every 15 minutes until 9:30 p.m.
  • 6:30pm: Fireworks
  • 6:45pm: Holiday music

Saturday, Nov. 15, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.; Saturdays, beginning Nov. 22, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Capital Wheel, National Harbor

Activities: Get your photo taken with Santa before you ride The Capital Wheel in enclosed, temperature-controlled gondolas.


The Harbor Holiday Market on American Way -- Every weekend from Nov. 15 to Dec. 21

From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at American Way, National Harbor

Activities: Shop the seasonal Farmer’s Market, now with Christmas trees, wreaths, holiday greenery, and more. Warm up with hot chocolate, winter treats and seasonal goodies from National Harbor’s retailers and have fun making your own Smeeps.

Ho-Ho-Holiday Carousel Rides with Santa -- Every Saturday beginning Nov. 22

From 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at The Carousel at National Harbor

Cost: $5 per child for unlimited rides (plus tax); adults ride free when accompanying a paid child

Activities: Enjoy a festive carousel ride with Santa at National Harbor’s Carousel.


Gaylord’s ICE! -- Nov. 14 through Nov. 16, 2014 and Nov. 20 through Jan. 4

Hours vary; More information is available online.

Hosted at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, National Harbor

Activities: The region’s must-see holiday attraction ICE! is back with an exciting new theme featuring Frosty the Snowman – brought to life with more than two million pounds of colorful ice. Walk through this classic Christmas story, slide down ice slides over two stories high and watch artisans as they create frozen marvels in The Frostbite Factory, a live ice carving zone.



Ongoing Holiday Programming -- Every Saturday from Nov. 15 to Dec. 20

From Noon to 6 p.m. at the National Harbor Plaza

Activities: Warm up at one of National Harbor’s fire pits and enjoy live holiday entertainment and holiday movie screenings every Saturday during the holiday season.

Schedule:

  • 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Musical performance
  • 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Holiday Movie on the Jumbotron at the Plaza

Movie Schedule:

  • 11/15: The Santa Clause
  • 11/22: Elf
  • 11/29: The Polar Express
  • 12/6: The Muppet Christmas Carol
  • 12/13: The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol
  • 12/20: How the Grinch Stole Christmas
