RIVERDALE, MD -- A homeowner fatally shot a teenager who broke into his Riverdale home, police say.

Police received a 911 call at around 5:30 p.m. on April 10 from a resident who said that he had just shot a man who broke into his home, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department. The suspect fled after being shot, police say.

About a half hour later, police were called to Doctors Hospital in Lanham after a man suffering from a gunshot wound was dropped off there. He died of his injuries a short time later, and was identified as 18-year-old Victory Mbeng of New Carrollton.

"The homeowner shot Mbeng seconds after Mbeng kicked down the front door of the home," the report states. "Mbeng was armed at the time."

The break-in was recorded on a home surveillance system, and police believe the home was targeted. The homeowner is not facing charges.
