Lane Closures Planned During Brooklyn Bridge Road Bridge Repairs This Week

Drivers should expect lane closures in the overnight this week as crews make repairs to the Brooklyn Bridge Road bridge.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — Crews began working on the Brooklyn Bridge Road bridge over I-95 in Laurel Monday. Work should wrap up by the end of the week.

Crews will close three lanes on southbound I-95, Sundays through Thursdays, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Starting at 9 p.m., crews will close one right lane on I -95 south. At 10 p.m., crews will close a second right lane, followed by a third lane at 11 p.m. A flagging operation will be in effect on westbound Brooklyn Bridge Road. The repairs will require single lane closures on northbound I-95 for up to three nights, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration.

Crews will remove a cross-frame and bracing installation to control girder movement. Crews then will slowly heat and cool the steel beam in several cycles. When that's done, the temporary bracing will be removed and the cross-frame reinstalled.
