Live Alligators Confiscated From Hyattsville Apartment
Two live alligators were confiscated from a Hyattsville apartment after the MD Natural Resources received tips about the animals.
HYATTSVILLE, MD — After receiving a tip late last year, Maryland Natural Resources police officers investigated reports of live alligators being kept in a Hyattsville apartment.
After wrapping up their investigation, a 28-year-old Washington, D.C., man was charged with illegal importation and possession of two live American alligators. Both creatures were seized by natural resources police officers and relocated to wildlife education centers. The man faces up to $2,000 in fines if convicted.
American alligators are illegal to own in Maryland without proper permits, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
