BOWIE, MD — A lot of people think their parents are heroes. Occasionally, they get a chance to share that perception with others.

With its Local Heroes initiative, Patch is giving people the opportunity to recognize individuals in the community who are going above and beyond during these difficult times. What's been gratifying about this program, though, is learning that many of these heroes have been doing exceptional work all along.

Take Henry "Hank" Lloyd, for example. His daughter Amanda nominated him to be a Patch Local Hero because he's been delivering food to fellow seniors during the current coronavirus pandemic. Even before the pandemic started, Hank was an active member of the community, coaching basketball, mentoring others at his church, and basically enriching the lives of others. What could be more heroic than that?

Yes

What does the nominee do for work?
Deliver lunches to senior citizens

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
Even being a senior himself and at risk more than others to the current COVID-19 pandemic, he along with the local senior center deliver lunches and take seniors to doctors appointments during these times where everyone else is home and quarantining. Helping people even when he's at risk himself shows how selfless and caring he is. His family has begged for him to stay home, but he knows there are people who need help more than he does and he's consistently lending a helping hand and

He goes above and beyond to build relationships and help those in the Bowie and Upper Marlboro, and Laurel areas in Maryland.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
His entire life has been dedicated to helping people. Whether it be through sports (he's a well-known basketball coach in the area), church (he serves as a deacon in his church and mentors members and seniors by dedicating his time post-retirement) to helping these individuals.
