Local Hero: Friend Calls Bowie Police Officer 'Courageous'
Patti Hammonds nominated her friend James Sullivan of the Bowie Police Department as a Patch Local Hero.

BOWIE, MD — Essential employees are called "essential" for reason. Whether they're a medical professional treating patients with the coronavirus or a pharmacy clerk refilling a prescription, they're performing tasks that are helping our community to function during these difficult times.
Public safety personnel, such as firefighters and police officers, are deemed essential as well, because they're our first-responders. They routinely go into dangerous situations. Now, in the time of the coronavirus, they're putting themselves at even greater risk every time they go out on call.
Patti Hammonds of Germantown called her friend James Sullivan of the Bowie Police Department courageous. She wanted other people to know that, which is why she nominated him as a Patch Local Hero.
