Man Sentenced For Fatally Stabbing Person Who Bought Headphones From Him
Darryl Scottland has been sentenced in the fatal stabbing of the man who met him at a business and bought headphones from him.
OXON HILL, MD — A judge has sentenced 32-year-old Darryl Scottland for the murder of another man who he robbed in 2022 during a meet-up to sell a pair of headphones.
On Nov. 2, 2022, Scottland went to Discount Tobacco at 4921 Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill to see a pair of headphones. Anthony Taylor, Sr., 47, was to meet him there and buy the headphones. Taylor went into the store to withdraw $200 from the ATM. He paid Scottland $20 for the headphones. But while Taylor was looking the other way, Scottland stole the remaining cash out of his pocket, according to prosecutors.
Scottland took off but Taylor walked after him. Scottland stopped running, turned around, pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Taylor once in the neck. Taylor died in the parking lot, police said. The incident was captured on surveillance video.

Scottland was convicted Jan. 30 and sentenced this week to life for 1st-degree felony murder, 25 years suspend all but 20 years for 1st-degree assault and three years for possession of a dangerous weapon.
"Though we can't bring Mr. Taylor back, this sentence brings closure to his family and loved ones," said State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy. "It also ensures that Mr. Scottland is held accountable for his brutal actions against the victim. Our job is to secure justice for our victims and we did that in this case."
